Gmail Labs, which develops new features to gmail, has added a new one called inbox preview.
You can activate the feature from options -> labs section. With making this, you will see gmail start page with a preview of your inbox rather than just a white page. Especially if you have a low-speed internet connection, I advice you to use this feature. Having a look at your inbox is better than waiting and getting bored.
